Sam Volker

I am a casual sports photographer on the weekends and a part time civil engineer and university student during the week.

I have a long history with Rowing, initially starting coxing at the Friends Rowing Club when I was 10 years old for the masters and before rowing school at Friends and club at Buckingham Rowing Club for 13 years at which I am now a life member.

I have been fortunate enough to represent Australia at the U23 level in the Mens eight in Amsterdam in 2011 and twice went to Russia as part of the Australia Uniroo’s Universiade team. I also represented Tasmania for 7 years in the Interstate regatta and won bronze in the Presidents cup in the 2013 edition of the race.

I retired from elite rowing in 2017 and from Club rowing following the 2018 season. Following my retirement, I took up photography as a hobby, mostly dabbling in landscapes

It wasn’t until my dad sent me an image a professional photographer took of me rowing in U14’s that I realised that rowing in Tasmania no longer had anyone documenting the time, effort and commitment that the rowers of the state were making to their craft. so back to the regattas I went to combine a new passion and an old one to create memories of their journey in this sport
